4. Ford F550 Super Duty The F550 is the beefiest offering in Ford's F-Series line. Like the rest of the top five, its residual value benefits from a recent redesign. But the fact that the F550 is made purely for commercial applications further enhances its potential to hold value over time. Other F-Series models are bought by folks who don't necessarily require all of their capabilities. So when gas prices climb, demand for them drops. The purpose-built F550, on the other hand, with two rear wheels per side (called a "dually" in truck parlance), a bone-jarringly stout suspension, choice of a Triton V10 or turbodiesel V8 engine, and a massive frame that accommodates all manner of heavy-duty contraptions will always be in demand by commercial operators. 5. Chevrolet Suburban 2500 The Chevy Suburban 2500 or "three-quarter-ton" model kicks the performance up from the 1500 version with a 6.0-liter 352-horsepower V8 engine and a tow rating of 9,600 pounds. It is used not only for commercial applications, but also for families to haul boats, campers and horse trailers. The Suburban 2500's residual value has grown for the same reason the 1500's has. But because it's more expensive, with a starting price that's $1,610 more than the base model, the Suburban 2500 will shed more value over time, which translates to slightly less of an increase in residual value relative to the Suburban 1500. But the fact that Chevy Suburban models cost less than their GMC Yukon XL counterparts puts them ahead in terms of residual value.
